Terms of Service

Last updated October 19, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Nexju ancestry-modeling service at nexju.com (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.

1. The Service

Nexju provides tools for population-genetics analysis, including qpAdm and qpWave modeling, f-statistics, principal component analysis, admixture dating, and related analyses, performed against published reference datasets and user-uploaded data. Features may evolve over time, and we may add, change, or remove functionality; when we make significant changes, we will communicate them through the Service.

2. Accounts

  • You sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for safeguarding your Google credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must provide accurate information and keep it current, and you must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
  • Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
  • When you create an account, you are subscribed to the Nexju newsletter, which brings news about the Service such as new analyses, datasets, and features. You can unsubscribe at any time on your Email preferences page or with the Unsubscribe link in any newsletter. Unsubscribing does not stop service emails, such as receipts, invoices, and notices about your account.

3. DNA and genetic data

  • You may upload raw autosomal data files only if you have the legal right to use them and, where the data belongs to another person, their permission.
  • You represent that any uploaded DNA data was obtained lawfully and with any consent required for the analyses you run.
  • Genetic data is sensitive. Do not upload data relating to identifiable individuals without their knowledge and consent.
  • You retain ownership of the data you upload. By uploading it, you grant us only the limited license needed to store, convert, and analyze it in order to provide the Service.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law, including genetic-data and privacy laws;
  • upload data you are not authorized to use, or attempt to re-identify individuals within reference datasets;
  • probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, circumvent security or usage controls, or access non-public parts of the Service;
  • resell, sublicense, or provide paid access to the Service to third parties without our written agreement;
  • abuse rate limits, metering, or usage reservations, or use automated means to consume the Service in a way that degrades it for others; or
  • misrepresent the origin of analyses or results generated by the Service.

5. Metered usage and billing

Analyses are metered. Depending on your plan or credits, launching an analysis may consume usage that is billed in advance or deducted from your balance. Prices, plans, and what each analysis consumes are presented in the Service at the time you launch it. Payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store full payment card details. Except as required by law or stated at the point of purchase, fees already spent on completed analyses are non-refundable.

6. Scientific disclaimer

The Service is provided for research and educational purposes. Results such as ancestry proportions, statistics, dates, and plots depend on reference data, sample coverage, and model choices, and must be interpreted with appropriate scientific expertise. The Service does not provide medical, diagnostic, clinical, genealogical-certification, or legal advice, and results must not be used to make medical decisions or legal determinations.

7. Your content and results

  • You retain all rights to the data you upload and to the results generated for your account.
  • We retain all rights to the Service itself, including software, reference-data integrations, interfaces, and documentation.
  • You may use, publish, and share your results. If you publish results derived from published reference datasets, we encourage appropriate citation of the underlying sources.

8. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of it, and scheduled or unscheduled downtime may occur. We may also impose limits on usage to protect the Service and other users.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time from the “Data & privacy” settings page. Deleting your account removes your data as described in our Privacy Policy and cancels any active subscription so you are not billed again. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that results will meet your expectations or research goals.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Nexju and its personnel will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or research value, arising from or relating to your use of the Service. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Nexju harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your uploaded data, or your use of results in violation of applicable law or third-party rights.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Nexju is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or the Service, except where applicable consumer law gives you the right to bring claims locally.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. For material changes we will update the “last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
